FCC Releases Q3, Q4 Inquiry, Complaint Totals

The FCC has released its tally of consumer inquiries and complaints for the third and fourth quarters of 2008. As expected, the bulk of broadcast inquiries, or 88%, concerned the transition to digital television, doubling Q2's consumer inquires to 61,404 from 31,719. The third quarter saw an increase in complaints, with 93% of them related to broadcast indecency.
Inquiries surged 116% in the fourth quarter, with questions rising by 149%. 85% were related to the June 12 DTV transition. Q4 broadcast complaints fell 27% over Q3 to 70,836 from 98,816.
The FCC also revealed that there were a "substantial increase" in indecency complaints, up 35% to 210,190 from 154,626 in 2007.
