Rep. John Conyers Jr., a proponent of the Performance Rights Act that would levy royalties on radio for local airplay, will hold a town hall meeting in Detroit on Monday to discuss the controversial proposed bill. The PRA, that he co-sponsored, was passed by the House Judiciary Committee, which he also chairs.
Members of the trade group, Music First, including singer Sam Moore (of Sam & Dave fame), Dionne Warwick, Duke Fakir of the Four Tops and council member/Motown star Martha Reeves will be there, along with other Detroit and Motown entertainers, reports The Detroit News.
Earlier this week, NAB launched a new competition encouraging radio stations to produce and air their own 30-second radio spot opposing the Performance Right Act. Dubbed "Don't Tax That Dial," the trade group is calling on the creative skills and promotional power of radio in an effort to thwart the RIAA lobbying campaign.
