NAB placed an advertisement in Congressional Quarterly (CQ) and National Journal's Congress Daily highlighting the relationship between free radio airplay and record sales. The ad features a mosaic comprised of gold and platinum albums given to radio stations by record labels in appreciation for promoting music through free radio airplay.
"Radio is the number one way listeners discover new music and new artists. This free promotion translates to billions of dollars each year in music, concert ticket and merchandise sales for labels and their performers," reads the advertisement.
The ad continued, "So why are the record labels trying to bite the hand that feeds them by imposing a performance tax on local radio? Don't penalize radio for the bad business decisions of the labels. Support the Local Radio Freedom Act and keep radio free."
