Zune HD, the next generation portable media player from Microsoft that comes with a built-in HD Radio receiver, is available for pre-order from Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Amazon.com or the Microsoft Store. The product will hit store shelves on September 15. The Zune HD is the second portable device that features HD Radio technology. The first came from Best Buy's own Insignia brand just last month.
The player, with a suggest retail price of $289.99, is available in 16gb and 32gb capacities, is the first touch-screen Zune and includes powerful playback technology. Combined with PC software and online services such as Zune Pass, Zune provides a connection to music, videos, podcasts and more.
A little more than halfway through 2009, this has already been a watershed year for HD Radio, which is available to 85% of Americans via nearly 2000 HD Radio stations. To date, there are over 1000 new HD2/HD3 channels on the air, 13 vehicle brands backing the technology -- representing 70 models, and 14,000+ retailers.
The HD Digital Radio Alliance is supporting the Zune HD pre-sale and September product launch with a heavy flight of 30-second radio spots in 100 markets on 700 radio outlets.
