Rock KBER-FM/Salt Lake City afternoon co-host, Allen Handy, one half of "Mick and Allen," is being sued by a local garage after Handy allegedly told listeners of the "Freak Show" that the shop "stole the car from him," a 1965 Mustang. He also asked listeners not to use the car repair shop, according to the suit filed last week in 3rd District Court.
According to the Deseret News, the garage obtained an abandoned car lien and later sold the car after Handy's wife failed to pay for about $10,000 in repairs.
Handy "knew the statements were false when made and/or made those statements with reckless regard for their truth," the lawsuit states, "and, in making those statements, intended to cause economic harm to" the garage.
The suit also names KBER's parent company, Citadel Broadcasting, as the defendant is seeking $500,000 in damages.
