Katz Media to Focus on Longterm Diversity Efforts

Katz Media Group is expanding its diversity initiatives by providing training for management. The company's ongoing commitment to greater diversity has transformed from mainly a recruiting effort to what Katz calls a focus on retaining and developing a diverse workforce. The new workshops are geared to teach managers how to promote inclusion in the workplace.

As minority populations soar in the U.S., the company has announced that it would take proactive measures to not only create and retain a more diverse workforce, but also to prepare the organization to enter new markets.

"Since nearly 70% of today's job seekers are women and people of color, it's imperative that we make our diversity initiative a priority," said Senior VP/Director of Corporate Diversity Brian Knox (pictured). "At Katz, we're creating an environment that attracts and retains the best of the talent pool. Our country has never been more diverse, so we want our workforce to reflect the existing population, to help us to confidently navigate new areas of interest, such as the exploding Hispanic market."

According the U.S. Census Bureau, the Hispanic population in the U.S. is on target to surpass 20% of the entire population by 2030. As the buying power of Hispanics and other minority groups soars, advertisers are looking for guidance to engage and capture new markets. Katz wants to position itself to provide such direction by first employing and developing expertise internally.

The training workshops will center primarily on embracing diversity in the workplace and will cover best practices on how to effectively communicate inclusion, as well as how to spot and prevent bias in the office. The workshops will review other companies' efforts as case studies. (10-29-09)
