CBS Corp. Q1 Revenues Up 12%, Radio Down 2%

CBS Corp., parent of CBS Radio, reported a 12% gain in first quarter total revenues of $3.9 billion as compared with $3.5 billion in 2011. Local Broadcasting revenues of $622 million remained flat when compared with the same prior-year period. Radio revenues decreased 2%. The broadcaster posted net earnings of $363 million (54 cents per diluted share) up 87% from $202 million (29 cents) in the year-ago period.

Operating income for the first quarter grew 47% from $437 million with improvement in operating income margins up four percentage points to 16% in 2012 from 12% in 2011. Operating income includes a noncash impairment charge of $11 million related to station divestitures. Local Broadcasting operating income fell 3% to $138 million from $143 million for the same prior-year period. (05-01-12)
