RADIO ONLINE | Monday, June 29, 2015 |
Research by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) shows the average age and tenure of News Directors is holding steady. News Directors range in age from 18 to 84, with the average in the mid- to late 40s in markets of all different sizes. The average News Director has been at their current station 5.7 years.
A quarter of radio station News Directors have another fulltime job, and nearly three quarters have other responsibilities at their station beyond news, such as being the General Manager, Program Director or working a shift as an announcer. That's up from two years ago, but well below the record high of seven years ago.
The most common name for male news directors is Mike, and for female news directors, the top of the list features several variations of Cathy/Kathy.
