Report: Trump Team Likes FCC Remake Blueprint
RADIO ONLINE | Sunday, January 15, 2017 |
Broadcasting & Cable says in an exclusive report that the incoming Trump administration has signed off on an approach to remake the FCC offered by its FCC transition team majority, which agrees with the deregulatory philosophies of current Republican Commissioners Ajit Pai and Michael O'Rielly. Their approach is to restructure Commission bureaus to better incorporate the the digital age and possibly moving duplicative functions, such competition and consumer protection, to the FTC.
B & C reports that while some see these moves as a plan to eliminate the FCC, transition team members Jeff Eisenach and Rosyln Layton have argued that what remains would be "a more coherent and streamlined " agency that "would more effectively serve the goals of consumers, competitors, and Congress."
