Univision Q1 Total Revs Up 4.9%, Radio Down 23.5%

Univision Communications reported first quarter total revenue grew 4.9% to $692.6 million from $660.4 million in 2016. On a pro forma basis, assuming all 2016 acquisitions occurred on January 1, 2016, revenue rose 0.8% to $681.1 million from $675.5 million. Revenues for the company's radio division fell 23.5% to $11.4 million from $14.9 million. Total revenue for its Media Networks segment increased 5.9% to $637.4 million from $601.8 million. Adjusted OIBDA decreased 8% to $272.6 million compared to $296.2 million. The company posted a net income of $58.1 million as compared to $66.7 million in the year-ago period.

"We started the year with revenue growth, driven by increases in the subscription fees we receive for the distribution of our content," said Univision Communications President/CEO Randy Falco. "We continue to grow our estimated average monthly unduplicated media consumer reach, which increased by 34 percent to 108 million in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, reflecting our strategy of expanding our digital footprint."

He continued, "We gained audience share in nearly every day part during the quarter and our flagship network was the # 1 Spanish language network for the quarter and in the February Sweeps. This momentum has continued into the May Sweeps as we continue to widen the gap between us and our competition headed into the Upfront. And we also strengthened our balance sheet by amending the terms and extending the maturities of our debt."
