SBS Settles Interference Lawsuit with Grupo Radio
RADIO ONLINE | Friday, January 12, 2018 |
Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS) has reached an agreement with Grupo Radio Centro to settle a long-standing lawsuit between the parties. SBS filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit in February, 2016 immediately after Grupo hired an air personality from SBS's KLAX-FM in Los Angeles, alleging tortious interference and unfair competition. The settlement is confidental and the terms cannot be disclosed.
The suit was filed by SBS after Grupo allegedly interfered with the contract between SBS and Martin Romero Hernandez (aka El Raton). He left SBS-owned Regional Mexican KLAX (La Raza) in January, 2016 to join Grupo crosstown rival KXOS-FM (Radio Centro 93.9). SBS had claimed Grupo lured Hernandez by recruiting, soliciting and enticing his entire "La Raza" morning team to move with him to KXOS.
"We are extremely pleased to have amicably resolved the matter," stated SBS General Counsel Richard Lara. "As has always been its practice, SBS will not hesitate to take legal action when necessary to defend its contractual rights and business interests."
