Report: Cumulus Seeks to End WLS/White Sox Deal
RADIO ONLINE | Friday, January 19, 2018 |
According to a report from SB Nation, Cumulus Media -- which is currently in bankruptcy proceedings -- is asking the court to get release O&Oed WLS-AM/Chicago from its six-year deal with the White Sox, only two years into the broadcast agreement. It's also seeking to get out of deals with a handful of others they've deemed "extremely unprofitable." The White Sox previous spent 10 years on crosstown WSCR-AM (The Score).
The Tribune's Phil Rosenthal reports that Cumulus is looking to end about twenty contracts, including a broadcast radio deal with the Chicago Bulls and purchases of WKQX-FM and WLUP-FM. The court in New York is expected to decide on Cumulus's motion on February 1. SB Nation says The Score has already taken on the Cubs' radio broadcasts, so the Sox would need to find a new home.
