Cumulus to Move Three Indy Stations, No Changes for Now
RADIO ONLINE | Monday, February 18, 2019 |
Cumulus Media agreed to acquire three Indianapolis stations in a swap with Entercom earlier this month and for now, the purchase of CHR WZPL-FM, AC WNTR-FM and Sports/Talk WXNT-AM will have little impact on listeners reports the Indianapolis Business Journal. However, the Entercom outlets will eventually move to the stations to new studios in Indianapolis where it already owns Classic Rock WJJK-FM, Country WFMS-FM and CHR WYRG-FM a consistent competitior for WZPL.
The timing for the move has not yet been determined, reports IBJ, nor has anything been decided regarding potential staffing changes, Cumulus officials told the newspaper. It's unclear what will happen to Entercom's studios. But, Cumulus officials told IBJ on Friday there would be no immediate programming changes to the three stations, although they wouldn't rule out new formats later on.
"We are extremely excited to welcome 99.5 ZPL, 107.9 The Mix and CBS Sport 1430 AM to Cumulus Indianapolis. These formats fit very nicely with our current line-up, and the combined audience of the new group will help advertisers reach almost 1 million Indianapolis consumers," said Cumulus Executive VP/Operations Dave Milner.
Cumulus will sign a local marketing agreement (LMA) to program the stations beginning on March 1. Cumulus hopes to close the deals during the second quarter.
