Classic Rock KBFX-FM (100.5 The Fox)/Anchorage, AK, has suspended morning hosts Woody & Wilcox indefinitely, and without pay, for making inappropriate comments about Native women. Not only did the Clear Channel outlet suspend them, but is sending the duo to participate in sensitivity training.
"KBFX wishes to apologize to everyone in our audience and the community who was offended by the insensitive and inappropriate comments alluding to native women made during the Woody & Wilcox broadcast on April 9," reads a statement posted Tuesday on its web site.
KBFX says it will also make the sensitivity training available to all other staff members. Woody and Wilcox's compensation for the period of time they are suspended will be donated to an appropriate charity. "We are confident that what was said was an isolated incident," the statement continued.
On April 9 the duo suggested that real Alaskans have "made love to the Yukon and peed in a Native woman," listener Michelle Davis told the Dutch Harbor Fisherman, who filed a complaint with the FCC after hearing the comment.
