FCC Takes WQYK/Tampa to Court Over Failure to Fine
RADIO ONLINE | , , |
A five-year-old battle on the amount of radiation being emitted from broadcast towers in downtown Tampa has moved to the court system, reports the Tampa Bay Business Journal. The Commission filed a lawsuit Wednesday against CBS Radio to recover a $10,000 fine plus interest over the FCC fine issued some three years ago.
The agency originally fined WQYK-FM and WVEA-TV in Tampa after visits in 2004 found there was not adequate notification to visitors that they were being exposed to more than the maximum permissible amount of radio frequency radiation. The newspaper reported that while it is not illegal to exceed radiation standards, areas that do exceed those limits have to be properly restricted.
The original fines were $25,000 each, but the Commission, but reduced both fines to $10,000.
