Edwards Buys WPYT/Pittsburgh, Plans AA News/Talk
RADIO ONLINE | , , |
Veteran Pittsburgh broadcaster Eddie Edwards Sr. has agreed to purchase 14kw daytimer WPYT-AM (660) with plans to launch a News/Talk format that is targeted to African Americans. Edwards is still searching for studio space, and he estimates launching the new station in January.
At a news conference on Monday, Edwards noted that the local African-American community had been disenfranchised by the sale of Urban outlets WAMO-FM and WAMO-AM.
"The community voice has definitely been disrupted. People don't know where to go for information," says former WAMO air talent GQ.
Edwards is the former owner of TV 22 and is looking for an FM station to acquire.
