After meeting with stiff opposition, St. Louis Blues Chairman Dave Checketts has dropped Premiere Radio-syndicated Rush Limbaugh from his bid to acquire the NFL's St. Louis Rams, calling his involvement a "distraction," reports the St. Louis Business Journal.
"It has become clear that his involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions, endangering our bid to keep the team in St. Louis," Checketts said in a statement. "As such, we have decided to move forward without him and hope it will eventually lead us to a successful conclusion."
Earlier this week, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay predicted that Limbaugh's potential bid would be opposed. Additionally, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell called Limbaugh's comments during his short stay with ESPN about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb "polarizing."
NFL Players Association head DeMaurice Smith also urged players to speak out against Limbaugh's bid. And earlier Wednesday, Limbaugh said on his show that he was "not even thinking" about pulling out of the deal.
Currently, the Rams have an estimated worth $913 million as determined by Forbes. But in today's climate the franchise's value may have fallen to $700-$750 million.
