RADIO ONLINE | , , |
Univision will flip newly acquired WQXR-FM (96.3)/New York to WXNY-FM as "X96.3 FM," airing Rhythmic Spanish Hits beginning October 15 at 8pm. The Spanish-language broadcaster closed on the station last week in a 3-way $33 million deal which pushes the station's Classical format to 105.9. WCAA morning host Luis Jimenez makes the move and remains in mornings.
Concurrently, crosstown News/Talk WNYC-FM takes Univision's Tropical 600-watt WCAA-FM (105.9)'s equipment and license, and the right to the WQXR call letters from the Times Company for $11.5 million. It will continue to serve its current audience as a listener-supported public station dedicated to classical music.
Univision Radio President/COO Gary Stone said, "This powerful station, WXNY X96.3 FM, will provide New York and the surrounding areas of New Jersey and Connecticut with more diversity in music and entertainment."
