Clear Channel Radio Chicago Launches Urban Net

Clear Channel/Chicago announced Wednesday the formation of the Clear Channel Chicago Urban Network, beginning November 6. The urban network includes WGCI-FM, WVAZ-FM (V103) and WGRB-AM (Inspiration 1390). Advertisers who purchase the Clear Channel Chicago Urban Network will receive a cross-platform of marketing opportunities, including radio, digital and events.

"Each station targets and influences a different segment of the population," said President/Market Manager Earl Jones. "Together, these stations reach more than 1.2 million African-Americans weekly."

The newly formed network will be seamless for urban listeners. Internally, 25-year programming vet Derrick Brown will assume the role of Director of Urban Programming for the urban properties. Brown previously served as V103's Program Director and Social Media Director for WLIT-FM, WVAZ-FM and WGRB-AM.

The Clear Channel/Chicago Urban Network sales management team includes Darlene Park, (General Sales Manager, Clear Channel Chicago Urban Network), and Carla Ross (Local Sales Manager, Clear Channel Chicago Urban Network). Park and Ross, who previously served in similar roles for WLIT-FM, WVAZ-FM and WGRB-AM, bring over 35 years of experience to the urban network.

"Clear Channel is more than radio -- we are a media and entertainment company," Jones added. "We're creating a one-stop shop for the advertisers to capitalize on the buying and listening power of the African-American consumer. In fact, the Selig Center projects the nation's African-American buying power will rise to $1.2 trillion by 2013, so there's tremendous opportunity here." (11-04-09)
