Cumulus has fired Birmingham Market Manager Bill Thomas. Thomas was part of the Citadel team before the merger. Birmingham became an instant headache for Cumulus after popular sports talker Paul Finebaum filed suit against the company. Finebaum claims he signed an unfavorable amendment to his contract after he was threatened with the cancellation of his show if he refused. Cumulus has since counter-sued Finebaum. While the story hasn't been much on the national scale, it's dominated Birmingham media for months.
Adding further drama, Cox is waiting in the wings for Finebaum and has been open with the fact that they would like him to work for their crosstown sports station. In the meantime, Cumulus regional manager John Walker will now be overseeing both the Huntsville and Birmingham markets.
