Fisher Broadcasting's KOMO/Seattle 10-year morning co-host Bill Yeend is calling it a day and retiring. A staple in the Seattle market, Yeend's long radio career also included several years at KIRO. This morning at 9am, Yeend signed off for the last time.
SeattlePi.com reports that Yeend's reporting took him to Moscow, Beijing, Jerusalem, the Vatican -- and to the Edgewater Hotel, where he broadcast as a young disc jockey for KBBX.
In a tribute video, KOMO radio morning producer Frank Lenzi said, "People told me he's a really down-to-earth guy, but he knows his stuff and he has a very high bar -- and all that's true. He's the most human person that I've met in this business. Period."
Co-workers say Yeend, a Walla Walla native, plans to spend more time on the golf game that also made him well known. They say he also plans to take a road trip with his wife, Cammy, whom he met at Eastern Washington State College.
Meanwhile, working Monday with co-host Manda Factor will be Tom Hutyler, a KOMO sports reporter and Mariners public address announcer. The station is looking for a permanent replacement for Yeend.
