Former WUSL-FM (Power 99) and Urban AC WDAS-FM/Philadelphia morning personality Brian Carter has died. He passed away early Sunday morning at the age of 56 from a massive heart attack. Carter was one half of the popular morning show "Carter and Sanborn" which aired on Power 99 from 1987 to 1999 and on WDAS in 2006. Carter most recently worked at WBLS-FM/New York and XM radio.
Director of Urban Programming Ken Johnson said, "Carter and Sanborn are the reason Power 99 is the station it is today. They inspired me to recapture the presence in the community Power had when they were on the air. Brian was also an inspiration to me personally. He will be missed."
Director of News and Community Affairs and news anchor for Carter's show on Power 99 added, "Brian Carter was a icon in radio with a love for the business and giving back to the community. This is not only a loss for his family and friends -- it's a loss for broadcasting."
Former partner Bill Simpson (Dave Sanborn) said, "I am devastated beyond words at the loss of Brian Carter, the best radio partner on the planet and most importantly one of my dearest friends. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones."
Fans can post their condolences on Power 99's and WDAS' Facebook pages. There will be a tribute to Brian Carter Monday Power 99's morning show with Uncle O, Mikey Dredd and Mina and on WDAS with Patty Jackson. (04-20-12)
