105.5 WEEI-FM/Springfield has announced an exclusive partnership with the University of Massachusetts (UMass) making it the official home of UMass football and men's basketball. The five-year agreement kicks off with the 2012 UMass football season, which begins on August 30 th at the University of Connecticut. In addition to comprehensive game coverage, WEEI Springfield will host the UMass coaches' shows featuring The Charley Molnar Show and The Derek Kellogg Show, which will air exclusively on Sports Radio 105.5. The agreement was brokered by Nelligan Sports Marketing, the multi-media rights holder for UMass Athletics.

"We have some of the most passionate and loyal fans in college sports, so it was important for us to provide the best possible exposure for our athletic program" said John McCutcheon, UMass Director of Athletics. " WEEI Springfield is the go-to station for all things sports in our area, so it made sense to make it the broadcast home of UMass Athletics as well."

The UMass Minutemen will join the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, Patriots Monday and Friday, Boston College football and basketball and Providence College football and basketball, on WEEI-FM's live game coverage roster. The schedule for the coaches' shows with Charley Molnar and Derek Kellogg will be determined at a later date and will round out WEEI's popular sports talk schedule including the Dennis & Callahan Show (weekdays 6am-10am), The Mut & Merloni Show (weekdays 10am-2pm), The Big Sh ow with Glenn Ordway & Michael Holley (weekdays 2pm-6pm) and Planet Mikey (6pm to Midnight).

"This is certainly an exciting time for UMass Athletics and we're pleased to have WEEI Springfield as our new flagship radio partner," said John Egan, Regional Vice President for Nelligan Sports Marketing. "As the Minutemen kick-off their first season of FBS football and as a new football member of the Mid-American Conference, it was important for us to find a station that would commit the resources necessary to promote the University and its athletic programs. Additionally, WEEI Springfield's stature as the #1 sports radio station in the region will provide outstanding exposure for our current and future corporate partners." (06-13-12)
