The Salem Radio Network (SRN) and Salem-owned News/Talk stations in major markets have just wrapped details for a coordinated, nationwide effort to enlist its listeners in Emergency Oklahoma Tornado Relief through Feed The Children, which itself is headquartered in Oklahoma City. This is 100% Oklahoma Emergency Tornado Relief, no references to hunger or other issues FTC deals with. All SRN shows will be participating, bolstered by Salem "local" News/Talk hosts in New York, Houston, San Diego, Dallas, Louisville, Chicago, Los Angeles, Honolulu and Denver.
The Oklahoma state medical examiner's office said Monday evening that 51 people have so far been confirmed killed in the tornado that tore through the city of Moore, while 20-30 children are missing. The monstrous EF4 tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs, flattening entire neighborhoods with winds up to 200mph.
SRN VP/News & Talk Programming Tom Tradup stated, "SRN president Greg Anderson, Salem Radio Division president Dave Santrella and the GM's at our NewsTalk o/n/o's with local hosts did not hesitate to marshall our forces nationwide to help the victims of this massive tragedy in Oklahoma." He added: "This is when we are proudest to work for a company like Salem that really believes in serving."
The nationwide effort will kick off at 6am Eastern with appeals on Bill Bennett's "Morning In America" and continue throughout the next three broadcast days.
