SCBA Launches Outreach & Speaking Engagements
RADIO ONLINE | Monday, April 14, 2014 |
The Southern California Broadcasters Association (SCBA) will hold a series of speaking engagements at Broadcast and Communications classes at colleges and universities in Southern California and London, England. The meetings and discussions are designed to educate students on the value of radio and its many digital platforms. What began as a radio career night at a UCLA Radio Broadcast class in Los Angeles in March has now expanded to four more speaking engagements over the next 30 days.
The series will feature SCBA President Thom Callahan, as he engages students in a dialog about the entire media landscape using research trends, comparative analysis, and a narrative of radio's growth and future in today's rapidly changing media environment.
"We are honored to have an honest dialog with what will be the next generation of broadcasters, producers, talent, sales executives, and future management," said Callahan. "Our goal is to open both minds and hearts to the tremendous future of Radio and its many audio and digital platforms."
The SCBA series will be held at California State University at both their Los Angeles and Fullerton campuses as well as at Pasadena Community College in Pasadena, CA. All are scheduled in April. The 4th lecture will be broadcast via Skype to the David Puttnam Media Centre at the University of Sunderland in London, England on May 13.
"The interest in American Radio and its future is very strong in London and we are flattered to be speaking to the University of Sunderland's Broadcast division classes," added Callahan. "Ultimately, the SCBA wants to attract the best and the brightest to our robust and growing Radio industry so we are making our case directly to students before they choose their career path."
