YSR Contributor Barry Warner Named to Texas RHoF
RADIO ONLINE | Monday, July 6, 2015 |
Gow Media's Yahoo! Sports Radio announces that legendary Houston radio personality Barry Warner has been named to the 2015 class of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame to be inducted on November 14. Warner is a network contributor and host of the "Barry Warner Classic Minute" on Yahoo! Sports Radio, a host on flagship station KGOW-AM/Houston and a contributor to Gow Media-owned KFNC-FM/Houston.
"Humility has never been my trademark -- but I am truly humbled," said Warner. "I was all set to stay retired until David Gow presented this opportunity to be part of his vision. Age is just something to put on a birth certificate. I still feel like a 30 year old when the red light goes on."
Barry Warner has been actively involved in both media and marketing for seven decades. His colorful career launched in the mid-1950's in his hometown of Buffalo, NY, where he worked as a "gofer" for the top sports station in the city, later getting his big break writing and producing sportscasts for then-Bills Star Quarterback Jack Kemp.
Later moving to Houston and scouting NFL legends like George Halas, Paul Brown and current Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, Warner went on to write reports for Howard Cosell. Over the next several decades, he meshed his sports knowledge and controversial style in several facets of the industry as Sports Director at KIKK, and television analyst for the Houston Rockets, Southwest Conference football, baseball and basketball.
After his many years of experience as a talk show host, TV commentator and producer, in 2009, Warner found a home on SportsRadio 610 as co-host of "The Odd Couple Show." He has now returned from retirement to join Yahoo! Sports Radio, KGOW-AM and KFNC-FM as a contributor.
