Inaugural TAB Radio Talent Institute Set to Launch
RADIO ONLINE | Tuesday, March 14, 2017 |
The Tennessee Association of Broadcasters, University of Tennessee Knoxville and National Radio Talent System have announced the inaugural TAB Radio Talent Institute. The Institute is a ten day immersion in radio -- discovering, coaching and preparing talented broadcasting students with over 30 broadcast professionals leading all the sessions. Students from all over the state and region can apply to be accepted and will also become certified Radio Marketing Professionals by the Radio Advertising Bureau.
"The TAB has been working toward this resolution for years, and with the help of many contributions and industry leaders, like Larry Patrick and Larry Stone, we are excited for the students and hiring opportunities through the proven track record of the Radio Talent Institute. The University of Tennessee at Knoxville is the perfect geographic location for our program," said Saga Communications/Clarksville, TN, President/GM Katie Gambill.
Sam Swan, Director, Internationalization and Outreach, College of Communication and Information and Professor, School of Journalism and Electronic Media, University of Tennessee, added, "The TAB Radio Talent Institute is an exciting program to bring leading broadcasters to the University of Tennessee to work with our outstanding students. This will be a great transition from the classroom to the newsrooms, control rooms, and production rooms of radio stations everywhere."
Larry Patrick of Patrick Communications commented, "The Tennessee Radio Talent Institute is an invaluable investment for future radio talent who are entering the radio industry. Led by industry professionals and facilitated by the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters and the University of Tennessee's College of Communications and Information, Tennessee joins several other states offering this specialized program for radio talent. Spearheaded by premier radio consultant, Dan Vallie, this program will provide real-world experiences and guidance for the participants. I could not be more pleased to invest in our future with this inaugural program at UT."
The inaugural TAB Radio Talent Institute will debut May 15-24. The National Radio Talent System will be contacting broadcasters from radio stations across the state to teach sessions in this innovative talent incubator/farm system for broadcasters teaching young talent who can be hired today and become leaders in our industry in the future.
TAB President Whit Adamson stated, "The student preparation and focus for the Radio Talent Institute is like nothing else we could get involved with. This course gets them ready for graduation and the next step in their careers, which is a valuable asset to any station. They have been exposed to all facets of a station and capable of sitting down at any broadcast radio or television facility and prepared to add something."
The National Radio Talent System Founder and President Dan Vallie said, "We are very excited to be partnering with the University of Tennessee and working with Sam Swan and the College of Communication and Information, and with Benny Smith, at their award winning college radio station, WUTK. And we couldn't be happier to partner with Whit Adamson, President, and the TAB, who have been supportive of the National Radio Talent System almost from the very beginning. Whit is a real pro, is great to work with, and the TAB has shown their support even prior to this partnership by providing scholarships for the Radio Talent Institute in Kentucky."
The TAB Radio Talent Institute is accepting applications from students now, and it encourages all broadcasters to urge their interns at the stations now and from this past summer to apply at tab.nationalradiotalentsystem.com. The deadline to apply is March 31.
