MIW Reveals Mentees for Carter Mentoring Program

The Mentoring & Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) Group has revealed the four mentees selected to participate in the 2017 Mildred Carter Mentoring Program. Now in its 16th year, the annual initiative matches up-and-coming women in the radio industry with female professionals recognized as leaders in all aspects of radio. To date, the Mildred Carter MIW Group Mentoring Program has successfully mentored a total of 39 mentees. The 2017 class is comprised of the following radio veterans:

  • Andrea Geiger, Local Sales Manager, Radio One
  • Jenna Kesneck, Marketing/Promotions, Cox
  • Jenn Mulzer, Human Resources, Emmis Communications
  • Justine Roller, General Sales Manager, Entercom
"It is very rewarding to track the professional growth and success of our mentees," said Kay Olin, MIW Radio Group spokeswoman and Principal of Olin & Associates. "We can clearly see a direct correlation between the participation in this supportive and impactful program and the accomplishments and professional trajectory our mentees achieve."

"This annual process is an encouraging reminder of the incredibly talented female talent working in radio markets across our country," said 2017 MIW Radio Group Mentoring Committee Chiar Lindsay Cerajewski. "Narrowing the final list down to just four mentees is always a difficult process. We congratulate our newest mentees and look forward to helping them attain new professional heights in the year ahead."

Each year, a total of four candidates from the radio broadcasting industry within the sales, marketing, programming and digital disciplines are selected for the MIW Radio Group Mentoring Program.

The program is named in the memory of Mildred Carter, who, along with her husband Andrew "Skip" Carter, founded the first African American-owned radio station in the U.S. in 1950, when they turned on KPRS Kansas City, MO. Mrs. Carter ran the Carter Broadcast Group for many years, after the death of Skip Carter, before turning over control of the company to her grandson Michael Carter in 1987.
