RADIO ONLINE | Wednesday, July 22, 2020 |
The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee has voted to send FCC Commissioner Michael O'Rielly's nomination for another term to the full Senate for confirmation. Commissioner O'Rielly was nominated for a seat on the FCC by President Barack Obama and was sworn into office in November, 2013. In January 2015, he was confirmed and sworn into office for a second term.
In a statement, O'Rielly wrote, "It is with deep appreciation that I thank the Members of the Senate Commerce Committee, especially Chairman Wicker for his support, along with Subcommittee Chairman Thune and the other Members of the Committee, for considering and favorably recommending to the full Senate my nomination to serve a new term at the FCC. The Committee takes its constitutional role in considering nominations seriously, and I am very pleased to have garnered the support of a bipartisan majority of Members."
Prior to joining the agency, Commissioner O'Rielly spent almost 20 years working in prominent Republican communication policy and leadership positions for the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Most recently, he served as a Policy Advisor in the Office of the Senate Republican Whip, led by U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX).
