RADIO ONLINE | Thursday, October 21, 2021 |
Longtime WFAN-AM & FM/New York late-night host Steve Somers has announced that he plans to leave the Audacy Sports outlet after 34 years. Somers, who has been with the station since it hit the airwaves in 1987, told a listeners his impending departure would be "sooner rather than later," and it "was a "mutual thing" and he's choosing not to work overnight hours any longer. It's possible he could return for fill-in duties.
Senior VP/Market Manager Chris Oliviero told Newsday's Neil Best that Somers "will be wrapping up his full-time run at WFAN sometime this Fall," calling the host "without a doubt one of the most important building blocks in the history of WFAN." He added that WFAN "really want(s) to do something big for him" to celebrate his legacy.
