The Minnesota Timberwolves are ending their radio partnership to air the NBA team's games on flagship WCCO in Minneapolis, reports the Star Tribune. The newspaper says that WCCO SVP/Market Manager Jeff Gonsales wrote in a letter to the staff that the station worked hard to keep the NBA team and "offered more than what we delivered from our previous contract."
Gonsales also said Timberwolves Chief Operating Officer Ryan Tanke told WCCO that the team is going to use a "super non-traditional" route for its broadcast partnership in a "one-year trial."
"We appreciated our partnership with WCCO and the radio broadcast opportunities we were able to accomplish with them," team spokeswoman Sara Perez wrote in a statement. "However, we are looking forward to announcing a new radio broadcast partnership in the weeks to come."
Wolves games had aired on WCCO since 2011, as well as co-owned KMNB-FM. There were also 30 stations in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota who aired games as partners.
