Report: WXRT/Chicago's Terri Hemmert to Exit Middays

Chicago radio icon Terri Hemmert will mark her final broadcast as midday personality (10am-1pm) on WXRT-FM on July 9, reports Chicago media columnist Robert Feder. After 45 years on the now Entercom AAA outlet, Hemmert who is 71, revealed in June she's reducing her role to part-time. The Radio Hall of Famer will continue to host her Sunday morning "Breakfast with The Beatles" program and handle fill-in work throughout the year.

Hemmert first joined WXRT in 1973 as overnight announcer and Public Affairs Director. In 1981, she became Chicago's first female host of a morning drive radio program, and has been XRT's midday DJ since 1992. Hemmert is duly honored at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum as one of the nation's most influential radio personalities. She is also widely respected as the Midwest's foremost authority on The Beatles, and continues to host the popular weekly program, Breakfast With The Beatles which airs Sunday mornings.

In addition to working at WXRT, Terri has been a member of the faculty in the Broadcasting Department at Columbia College Chicago for over 40 years, serves as co-host for the Chicago Symphony's Classic Encounters series, regularly supports numerous local not-for-profit organizations, and has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chicago chapter of the Recording Academy.
