Jeff Smulyan, Chairman, CEO and Founder of Emmis Communications Corporation, has been named the recipient of this year's Mike Carroll Award, given in memory of former deputy mayor and civic leader Mike Carroll. The annual award, selected by the Indianapolis Business Journal, honors a community member who has demonstrated Mike's qualities of determination, humility and devotion to the central Indiana community.
"Jeff Smulyan's contributions to central Indiana extend far beyond what he has achieved at Emmis Communications," said Greg Morris, publisher and president of Indianapolis Business Journal. "He cares deeply about the community and as a result is always happy to help out organizations large and small."
"I'm humbled to be given the Mike Carroll Award," Smulyan said. "Mike was a visionary leader in our community, and I'm incredibly honored to be added to the remarkable group of previous leaders who have won this award."
Smulyan is the 24th recipient of the award. Previous honorees include Marianne Glick, Yvonne Shaheen, Tom King, Gene Glick, Jerry Semler and Gerald Bepko.
Smulyan will be presented the award at the IBJ's upcoming Engage Indiana event on Friday, December 8.
