Abalta's WebLink Technology Delivers NextRadio
RADIO ONLINE | Monday, January 8, 2018 |
Abalta Technologies, a provider of technology to the connected car market, has announced that the mobile radio solution powered by NextRadio will be available across select vehicle platforms on in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems powered by Abalta's WebLink software platform. The first iteration of NextRadio for WebLink will be available in select aftermarket head units from JVCKENWOOD, and will begin shipping in early 2018.
NextRadio for WebLink allows drivers in any vehicle to connect a smartphone to a compatible WebLink-enabled car head unit, which requires minimal smartphone data and battery usage. The NextRadio app allows browsing of stations with an "at-a-glance" view of what's playing on the radio right now with its Live Guide that provides familiar logos or album art.
"NextRadio represents the evolution of radio that consumers expect, and the NextRadio app provides an in-dash visual experience on par with those expectations," said Abalta Technologies CEO/Founder Michael O'Shea. "As we continue to build out all aspects of the connected car experience within our WebLink platform, we are prioritizing those apps that generate the greatest mobile experiences for everyday drivers."
"We are excited to be the first enhanced AM/FM radio experience in the connected car through our relationship with Abalta and JVCKENWOOD," said NextRadio President Paul Brenner. "The ability to provide an interactive, in-car experience is a huge victory for the radio industry and offers a great experience for radio listeners."
The WebLink for JVC and WebLink for Kenwood application will be available for download in the Android Marketplace and Apple App Store. Once the app is downloaded, users can connect to select WebLink-enabled car head-unit to use NextRadio and other apps, including the traffic and navigation app Waze.
