Millions around the world are mourning the death of Rev. Billy Graham, who died Wednesday morning at his home in Montreat, NC. He was 99, just a few months short of the century mark. The world renowned evangelist preached the Gospel to more live audiences than anyone else in history. Nearly 215 million people have attended one of his more than 400 Crusades, simulcasts and evangelistic rallies in more than 185 countries and territories. He reached millions more through radio, TV, video, film, the Internet and 34 books.
"While we mourn the home going of Rev. Billy Graham, we also celebrate that he is finally Home. His impact was far reaching through radio stations such as Blue Ridge Broadcasting and KTIS. His devotion for the Gospel was contagious. May we as Christian music broadcasters continue to exude that passion as we encourage God's Kingdom," said Christian Music Broadcasters (CMB) Executive Director, Michelle Younkman.
In 1949, Rev. Billy Graham signed KTIS on the air, adding 98.5 KTIS, and all of Northwestern Media to his legacy. CMB's Board Chairman and VP of Northwestern Media, Jason Sharp said, "If it weren't for Rev. Billy Graham and his heart for the lost, Northwestern Media would not be in existence today." Listener supported 106.9 the Light/WMIT was also founded by Graham and his wife, Ruth, in 1962 and has been operated by Blue Ridge Broadcasting, a ministry of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, ever since.
A private funeral service is planned at the Billy Graham Library, on a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the ongoing ministry of evangelism at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, online at BillyGraham.org.
