RADIO ONLINE | Monday, September 17, 2018 |
Beasley Media Group's Rock WMMR-FM/Philadelphia will receive an official Resolution from Philadelphia City Councilman David Oh and other members of the council in recognition of the station's 50 years of serving as an outstanding contributor to the Philadelphia and surrounding area community's way of life. The ceremony will take place at 10am on Tuesday, September 18 in The Mayor's Reception Room at City Hall.
WMMR-FM midday personality Pierre Robert will broadcast the reading of the Resolution live as part of "The Preston & Steve Show" that morning. The event will kick-off "Alumni Week," a weeklong celebration featuring former air personalities as guest hosts on the air with Pierre throughout the week, including Michael Tearson, Earle Baily and WMGK-FM morning personality John DeBella.
"Alumni Week" will culminate with the station's 50th Reunion on Saturday, September 22. The event will take place from 5-8pm at The Foundry, located inside The Fillmore Philadelphia.
In addition, the celebration will coincide with a special weekend long feature on the airwaves highlighting archived DJ audio from the many talented personalities and DJs that worked at the station over the past five decades.
Beasley says WMMR-FM is regarded by the industry as the longest running rock station in America. The station has continued to expose new artists as well as play a familiar mix of ‘Everything that Rocks' since its beginning on April 29, 1968, when the very first record played on-air was "Flying" from a new album at that time called "Magical Mystery Tour."
