United Stations Extends with Carmen in Multi-Year Deal
RADIO ONLINE | Thursday, January 17, 2019 |
United Stations Radio Networks (USRN) has renewed its arrangement to distribute the daily comedic feature known as "Carmen Calls" as well as its companion weekend daypart program, "Sabado Picante." The deal, which extends a relationship that began in 2004, constitutes a multi-year agreement for United Stations with air talent whose background and history is a bit of an intentional mystery.
Carmen started out at KMEL-FM/San Francisco, and the spicy and somewhat loopy Latina female known as Carmen became a fan favorite. She originally appeared doing interviews on the KMEL morning show, but soon added so-called "prank calls" to her repertoire. After years of being a successful benchmark feature locally, she partnered with USRN in 2004 and began providing comedic content through the company to radio stations in Houston and San Francisco, growing affilaites from there. Today, Carmen is on the airwaves in New York, Philadelphia, Miami, Orlando, Providence and San Antonio, among others.
USRN Executive VP/Programming Andy Denemark commented, that "Unique and entertaining content is the greatest thing we can provide to our affiliates, and in that regard, nothing tops Carmen. We are so happy to be extending our relationship with Carmen well into the future."
