RADIO ONLINE | Friday, April 5, 2019 |
Former Bonneville President and former Hubbard Radio President/CEO Bruce Reese has died. He was 70. Reese first joined Bonneville International in 1984 and was elevated to President/CEO in 1996. He remained with the company when the 17 Bonneville outlets in Cincinnati, Chicago, St. Louis and Washington, DC, were acquired by Hubbard Radio in 2011. Under his leadership Bonneville stations won more than 40 Crystal and Marconi awards from the NAB, through a philosophy of strong local talent and service to community.
Reese's community activities included the United Way of Salt Lake Board of Directors and Intermountain Healthcare Board of Trustees. He has also served as Chair of the Joint Radio and Television Boards of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and as a director of the Associated Press. He began his career as an attorney in Washington, DC and also worked in the anti-trust division of the Department of Justice.
NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith said in a statement, "NAB and the entire broadcast industry is saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and former Bonneville President Bruce Reese. Bruce's accomplishments in broadcasting -- former NAB Joint Board Chair, former National Radio Award Winner and chair of the NAB Education Foundation -- were surpassed only by his commitment to charity and community service. Broadcasting is a better business and the world was a better place because of my friend Bruce Reese."
Reese is survived by his wife Lu Ann, their seven children, four daughters-in-law, two sons-in law, and twelve grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
