RADIO ONLINE | Tuesday, May 7, 2019 |
The Mentoring & Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) Group has announced the four radio professionals selected to participate as mentees in the 2019 MIW Group Mildred Carter Mentoring Program. Now in its 18th year, the MIW Group's mentoring program matches up-and-coming women in the radio industry with female professionals recognized as leaders in all aspects of radio broadcasting. Beasley Media Group is, for the second year in a row, serving as the lead sponsor of this year's program.
The 2019 class is comprised of the following radio professionals, listed in alphabetical order:
- Andrea Clay, National Sales Manager, Beasley Media Group, Charlotte, NC
- Katy Dempsey, Program Director and Morning Show Host, Bryan Broadcasting, College Station, TX
- Nicole Jones, Manager of Sales Training & Development, Cumulus Media, Chicago, IL
- Jennifer Seelig, Director of News & Programming, Entercom San Francisco, CA
A total of four candidates from the radio broadcasting industry - within the sales, marketing, programming and digital disciplines - are selected annually for the MIW Group Mentoring Program. The program is named in the memory of Mildred Carter, who, along with her husband Andrew "Skip" Carter, founded the first African American owned radio station in the U.S. in 1950, when they turned on KPRS Kansas City. Mrs. Carter ran the Carter Broadcast Group for many years, after the death of Skip Carter, before turning over control of the company to her grandson Michael Carter in 1987.
Beasley Media Group CEO Caroline Beasley said, "It is an honor and a privilege to support the MIW Radio Group's on-going mission of promoting women in the radio industry."
2019 MIW Group Mentoring Committee Chair and Entercom/Chicago National Sales Manager/New Business Development, Entercom Chicago said, "Each year, this coveted program generates more and more interest and therefore applications. We are very encouraged by the quantity and quality of candidates desiring to grow their careers in radio, and this year's class definitely reflects the excellence we're seeing in our applications. Let the mentoring begin."
