ESPN Springfield's Nate Lucas Not Returning to Airwaves Over Slur
RADIO ONLINE | Friday, September 4, 2020 |
Nate Lucas, host of "The Nate Lucas Show" on Springfied's ESPN Jock 96.9 FM, 99.9 FM and 1060 AM was recently suspended after making offensive comments about and using a sexist slur to refer to vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Now Jeff Allen, Operations Director at Zimmer Communications, says Lucas has been "suspended indefinitely with no return date established."
Reportedly, Lucas will also not return as a play-by-play voice for the Springfield Cardinals nor Southwest Baptist University.
Lucas also criticized members of the Missouri State University football program on his show after he learned that student-athletes were planning to march through campus in an effort to raise awareness of racial injustice. As a result, Art Hains - the longtime host of "Sports Talk" on the Jock and play-by-play man for Missouri State athletics - announced on his show that he would be stepping away from the station indefinitely because he did not want to be associated with the "regrettable" comments Lucas made about Missouri State student-athletes and staff.
Hains is expected to return to the air on Thursday evening.
