Larry Wilson's Alpha Broadcasting has completed its buy of KUPL-FM (Country 98.7), KUFO-FM (Rock 101), AAA KINK-FM and Talk KCMD-AM (970 The Talker)/Portland, OR, from CBS Radio for $40 million. In August, Wilson closed on crosstown News KXL-AM and Sports KXTG-FM (95.5 The Game) from Paul Allen's Rose City Radio.
Alpha was formed in early 2009 by Larry Wilson and Endeavour Capital Fund V. 30-year broadcaster Wilson is the former co-founder of Citadel Broadcasting in 1984, originally a private company with only two radio stations. Between 1984 and 2001, Wilson grew the company to become a publicly held radio operator with over 200 stations in 42 markets.
Wilson commented, "The purchase of these great stations is a perfect complement to the acquisition of news talk KXL-AM and KXTG-FM in Portland. With this dynamic cluster, Alpha will be able to serve a wide array of Portland residents."
Kalil & Company was the exclusive broker for the transaction.
