RADIO ONLINE | Tuesday, July 1, 2014 |
Alpha Broadcasting & L&L Broadcasting announced Tuesday that they have officially merged, becoming Alpha Media. Corporate headquarters for the company will remain in Portland, OR, where it operates six stations. L&L Broadcasting is also headquartered in Portland and operates 43 stations in seven markets. L&L has been overseeing the operation of the Portland stations for the last year under a management agreement with Alpha.
L&L Broadcasting also announced today that the purchase of 19 radio stations from Main Line Broadcasting for $57 million has closed. Main Line Broadcasting is headquartered in Philadelphia and operates 19 stations in four markets including Louisville, Richmond VA, Dayton and Hagerstown, MD-Chambersburg, PA.
Chairman Larry Wilson, an investor in each company, said that "The merger of Portland's Alpha operation into our newly created Alpha Media results in one Company operating all markets. Our Live and Local Vision continues to be our focus, and now with adding the former Main Line markets we can continue to develop our footprint with four attractive markets operated by great radio people. We are excited to add them to our growing company."
L&L Broadcasting President/CEO Bob Proffitt remarked, "From the day we visited each Main Line market, we knew that they were full of talented radio broadcasters that understand our vision and how we operate. We feel our live and local approach will enhance each market's rating and revenue potential. Having Portland in the fold allows us to liberally use some of the best brains in the radio business to help listeners, clients and employees at our other markets throughout the country."
"It's been a great 9 years at Main Line Broadcasting. I have had the pleasure of working with some of the best people in the industry. I am excited to have our talented broadcasters now under the leadership of Larry Wilson and Bob Proffitt and the L&L (Alpha) team. I wish L&L and this tremendous staff much continued success," noted Main Line Broadcasting CEO Marc Guralnick.
Media Venture Partners represented Main Line Broadcasting in the transaction.
