RTDNA Research Profiles Business of Radio News
RADIO ONLINE | Monday, May 2, 2016 |
Research by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) shows radio news profitability and website revenue are up, but newsroom budgets remain flat. The latest RTDNA survey of newsrooms finds an uptick in radio stations reporting making a profit on their on-air news operations. News websites which reported making a profit has slipped but the number reporting breaking even has risen. Web profitability overall has been up and down since the survey first started tracking web numbers in 1999, but is currently near a record high.
The number of newsroom budgets that increased over last year rose almost three points, but newsrooms reporting decreased budgets rose by two points. Among the top technology purchases in the past year were newsroom software, computer hardware and remote equipment, including digital recorders.
