Report: CBS Plans WJFK/Washington Flip to Sports

CBS Radio/Washington, DC, plans to flip Talk WJFK-FM to Sports/Talk in July reports the Washington Post. The move would put CBS in direct competition with crosstown Red Zebra's WTEM-AM (ESPN 980) and its two other Sports outlets. However, WJFK would have an advantage in terms of signal strength.

The newspaper speculates that CBS might be looking to reduce WJFK's operating costs with syndicated programming. WJFK likely will retain the Junkies (formerly Sports Junkies) program in the mornings. CBS has also been talking with former Redskin LaVar Arrington and Washington Post sports columnist Mike Wise about hosting daily programs.

WJFK currently has the broadcast rights to Capitals and University of Maryland men's basketball games.
