Mega Media Group's struggling Rhythmic CHR WNYZ-FM (Pulse 87.7)/New York announced Friday that it would go dark and stop broadcasting at 5pm. Pulse launched in February, 2008, on the audio portion of a low-power television outlet on VHF channel 6. It filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in August owing creditors more than $3.5 million.
Mega Media CEO Alex Shvarts thanked the station's air personalities past and present, the technical and sales staffs along with the listeners, advertisers and fans, and Tony Santiago of The New York Dance Music Coalition.
The station launched under veteran Program Director Joel Salkowitz in 2008. Under a custom PPM report, the station pulled 831,000 last month according to Arbitron.
