Entercom's KEZW: All Solar Power, All the Time!

On November 1, 2011, KEZW Studio 1430 AM broke ground in Littleton, Colorado for an installation of forty solar panels and the beginning of a historic project. In a move designed to both reduce dependency on the power grid and to showcase renewable energy, KEZW Studio 1430 AM is now the largest station in the United States to be powered by the sun.

This amazing project is part of the "1Thing" environmental initiative. Now in its third year, the premise behind "1Thing" is that if everyone did just one thing to preserve our environment, we would be one step closer to a sustainable world.

"I'm delighted that KEZW is leading the charge in the use of renewable energy and operating our transmitter with solar power," said KEZW Program Director and host of the Breakfast Club, Rick Crandall. "It's amazing that a station playing timeless music from the 40's, 50's and 60's is using the newest 21st century technology to power our signal."

Jeff Garrett, Chief Engineer at Entercom Denver added, "The KEZW solar project has been challenging and exciting for me. The science that allows that production of electricity from photons of light is cutting edge. We are excited about the future and I'm honored to be part of converting sunlight into radio waves."

KEZW proudly celebrates completion of the solar project by broadcasting Rick Crandall's Breakfast Club live from the KEZW Solar Site at 4700 E County Line Road in Littleton Friday, October 19, 2012 from 6am-10am, followed by a Solar Garden Dedication at 10am. Gates open at 8am with KEZW engineers on site to answer questions about reception and solar power.
