The Norwegian Local Radio Association announces the successful completion of the first phase of HD Radio testing in Oslo, Norway. "Radio Metro," with the support of HD Radio developer iBiquity Digital, and equipment manufacturer Nautel, began operating under a test authorization license in mid-June. The first phase of testing included many of the advanced digital radio services, including program info, HD2/HD3 audio services as well as the visual service known as Artist Experience. Testing is expected to continue through December 31.
iBiquity Digital VP/International Business Development Erik Hjelm said, "We are extremely pleased with the initial successful tests in Oslo. HD Radio broadcasts technology have been on air for over a decade in North America and have proven their commercial viability and value to listeners. As countries around the world plan their digital radio future, they should follow Norway's lead in considering HD Radio Technology as a complimentary local digital radio solution."
Hjelm added, "Advances in automotive radio technologies ensure that established digital radio solutions, such as DAB+ and HD Radio Technology, can co-exist in new car dashboards, which makes this trial all the more exciting."
