Schaffer Under Fire Over Billboard Campaign
RADIO ONLINE | Tuesday, August 4, 2015 |
WWWM-FM (Star 105.5)/Toledo morning personality Denny Schaffer is under fire over a billboard that went up mocking Caitlyn Jenner. The billboard face is apart of a new ad campaign and attempts to mimic Jenner's Vanity Fair cover with the message, "TRANSITION to Star 105" with the tag line "and don't call me Caitlyn."
David Badash reports, "Schaffer is a born-again Christian who last year said he has changed from his previous ways. There is a Change.org petition calling for the firing of Denny Schaffer. Star 105 was only too happy to post it to their Facebook page, opting to revel in the controversy rather than take down the billboard and apologize."
LGBT group Equality Toledo has called the billboard "hateful," and they're asking people to call station owner Cumulus Media to complain.
Calling the billboard "lazy" and "deadly" in an open letter to Cumulus, a blogger and Toledo resident known as Phaylen writes an interesting piece that can be found here
