RADIO ONLINE | Tuesday, September 1, 2015 |
Congratulations to Sid Hartman who celebrates an unprecedented 60 years on-air at WCCO-AM in Minneapolis/St. Paul. A native of north Minneapolis, broadcaster and columnist Sid Hartman has served as a sports insider for six decades. He was already a well-known newspaper columnist when he joined the staff of WCCO Radio in 1955. Since then, Hartman has become one of the station's most popular personalities. At the age of 95, Hartman is also one of CBS's oldest employees.
Throughout his career, Hartman has interviewed nearly everyone in the sports world, and has become an integral part of the station's Minnesota Twins, Vikings, North Stars and Gophers broadcasts. Hartman has also hosted features like "Hartman's Corner" and "Today's Sports Hero," as well as reported the daily sports news. His Sunday morning "Sports Huddle" program, which he has hosted for 26 years with Chuck Lillegren and Dave Mona, is a sports fan favorite in the market.
In 2011, Hartman was honored by both the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers before a game for his contributions to both organizations, when he served as the acting general manager of the Minneapolis Lakers. In addition, the Minnesota Twins honored him with "Sid Hartman Day" at Target Field in 2014, and as part of the MLB All-Star game festivities that year. Furthermore, a youth baseball field in Hartman's boyhood North Minneapolis neighborhood was named "Sid Hartman Field."
