RADIO ONLINE | Thursday, July 20, 2017 |
Sad to report that Linkin Park's lead singer, Chester Bennington, has died of an apparent suicide. He was 41. The Los Angeles coroner said the singer had hanged himself. Bennington was said to be close to Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell, who took his own life in May. Formed in 1996, Linkin Park have sold over 70 million albums and won two Grammy Awards.
In a statement CBS Radio Senior VP of Programming and KROQ Program Director Kevin Weatherly said, "On behalf of everyone at KROQ, I would like to extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Chester Bennington's family, friends and Linkin Park bandmates. KROQ, Chester and Linkin Park have been together since day 1, and our long history extends beyond the music. Chester and Linkin Park headlined many of our shows over the years, entertaining audiences and pushing the boundaries of music along the way. We are without words to describe how terribly saddened we are today. RIP friend, KROQ will miss you."
